Our
itinerary changed at the last minute because espanola island was closed
to visitors to we had to go to genovesa instead. this created
alot of night travel which was an exercise in sleep deprivation since
our cabin seemed to be next to the engine...the funny thing was that
there were no attempts to travel during the waking hours to minimize
the loudness at night...i do not mean to whine about it...i simply had
the expectation of reasonable sleep during this tour and we did not get
it
The food
was fair...the only meat that was not over-done and over-salted was the
ceviche. the cook was the only outwardly genial member of the
crew as the others were a little aloof. the bartender was, at
times, difficult to deal with as i felt we had to deal with snorkeling
equipment at his convenience. others expressed the same
frustration and went on to say that he would have sold much more
alcohol if his approach to the guests would have been better.
the
guide was knowledgeable but was somewhat irresponsible on our
snorkeling excursion to the devils crown. there were some in our
tour who had never snorkeled before and no tutorials or extra time was
given to make them more comfortable in open and choppy water. as
a result, we had a minor accident when someone was washed upon the
rocks, obtaining a few cuts...
it might sound like it was all bad...
but it was not. we were generally happy but i may not recommend
the guantanamera to a friend unless s/he had a good supply of sedatives
to get through the night.
